This naturally fermented rosé is pressed from early harvest Cabernet Franc with light skin contact and fermentation in both stainless and neutral French oak barrels. It opens on the nose with rose petals, cranberries and white raspberries with bright acidity and a refreshing finish.
The Dunnsden Vineyard is located in the Chalk Hill AVA in Sonoma County. We hand selected the grapes for this Rosé to help bring balance to the crop for our harvest of red wine a week or two later. This is a common practice in the old world, but rare in California where most will let the grapes mature longer on the vine to reduce green characters. The downside of extended ripening is the brighter more floral aromas and some of the specific varietal characters of Cabernet Franc. Another common practice is to drop fruit off the vines and discard it since selective early harvesting takes skill, passion and additional costs. The result of our efforts is this incredible Rosé which also improved the quality of the remaining red wine crop. It is a win for us, since we are passionate about rosé and we had a lot of fun harvesting with some great volunteers from San Francisco's NOPA restaurant!
