Crisp and dry with bright tropical fruit balanced by grassy and floral notes. It opens with aromas of grapefruit, citrus pith and freshly cut flowers. The palate is light and refreshing, supported by a strong minerality, acidity and texture coming from a mixture of volcanic and chalky soils.
The Luchsinger Vineyard is run by Bernie and his daughter Pilar. Bernie is originally from Chile and has been farming grapes in California and Chile since 1968. Not only do they grow incredible grapes, they also cook up incredible Chilean steaks, have an array of tiny hats and throw an awesome BBQ in the vineyard.
The clones we harvest are Sauvignon Blanc 01 on 5C and 3309C on a quadrilateral cordon. The soil in the vineyard is really the most spectacular feature that brings out such vibrant and mineral driven flavors. It is a crazy mixture of volcanic rock with alluvial loam, clay, gravel and calcium rich sea shells. You can see the soil types swirling and mixing as you walk down each row. Elevations are up to 1400 feet and the surrounding mountains rise to heights of up to 3,000 feet above sea level. The most dramatic being Mt. Knocti, a cone shaped volcano rising from the edge of vineyards and towering over the valley.
